Lene Ask

This author who makes realistic pencil drawings using pleasant fine colours is proof of the fact that not only surrealistic depressing underground comics is made in Norway. Originally a photographer, who also participated in the Erasmus programme in Prague, she broke through with the comic book Hitler, Jesus and Grandfather in 2006. Her story about searching for her roots and a journey to Germany received the Sproing award for the best debut of the year, and sold 50 000 copies. Family relationships is a frequent theme in the author´s work, as we can see from her last work Dear Richard, which is set at the end of the 19th century. It is based on letters covering a 10 year separation of a father, a missionary in Madagascar, and his son, who stayed in Norway.
