James Stafford

(1979) James Strafford, a script writer born in Wales, is behind the web comics The Sorrowful Putto of Prague. It became quickly known also thanks to its music accompaniment featuring for example Roger O´Donnell, a keyboardist known for his work with the legendary British band The Cure. The short stories about a 400 year old baroque angel (putto) are somewhere between popculture references to Prague mythology (in the manner of Hellboy), witty puns and the pure melancholy of disappearing history. The chain smoking character has to face the zombie Jan Nepomucký, meets the head of St. Vojtěch, then the Hanging man of Malá Strana (Little Quarter) and sits around in pubs with the golem. The comics which was created through internet mainly by the Philippine artist AJ Bernando, will be published in Czech language in 2016 (by Argo).
