Alessandro Sanna—The River

To make the sky, you need water, to make the earth, you need water, you need water for everything.” The exhibition of watercolours depicts four seasons and four stories taking place on the banks of the river Po. To portray the water dominated cycle, Sanna uses a wide spectrum of colour variations. His watercolours look into the connection between a person, a place, events and time that flows like a slow river which carries us away and away.

Assel Tleuova – Furry Paws

An original fashion comics inspired by songs by the Icelandic indiefolk band Of Monsters and Men and local fairy-tales. It consists of eight stories-clothes featuring a small boy, a strange creature Furry Paws, different trolls, little monsters and ghosts. Original intense colours and decorative drawings are in sharp contrast with the plain style of coats, dresses, tops and skirts. That´s why the minimalistic design of the fashion collection doesn´t distract from reading the comics story which is printed directly onto the fabric.

Dan Perjovschi, Matěj Smetana—15 000 Years of Sameless

The exhibition “15 000 Years of Sameless” presents the production of two artists of different generations. The Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi is known for his spectacular site-specific interventions into gallery spaces and his spontaneous comics drawings reflecting on everyday political events. The young Czech artist Matěj Smetana represents the younger generation. He often works with coincidence which is generated by mathematical algorithms. Both authors are connected by subtle irony which breaks the stereotyped reception of mechanisms of everyday reality.

Generation 2.0—New Czechoslovak comics

It’s 15 years since the creation of the first modern wave of home comics, the so called Generation zero, and now it´s time for a new generation of authors. Although the new generation is hard to define, there are certain aspects the artists have in common; a good knowledge of international comics works, identification with the virtual world of internet and a distinctive superiority of female authors. Short comics stories made especially for this exhibition by young artists born after 1989 will give us insight into the work of the next generation – from art to pop-cultural anime influences.

The exhibition opening will take place on Wednesday 20 October at 6pm.
